Driver Education Class

Driver Education class will begin May 30th.  Students who will be 14 years of age before May 1st will be eligible to enroll. Students may sign up in the office. There will be a mandatory meeting April 3rd at 10:45 a.m. for students enrolled in Driver Education.

 

Students who satisfactorily complete the Driver Education program at Satanta High School will:

 

Ø      Demonstrate an understanding of the Highway Transportation System including federal, state, and local regulations, signs, roadway markings, and other rules of the road.

 

Ø      Demonstrate proper orientation and fundamental control of a vehicle in a variety of driving situations.

 

Ø      Demonstrate an understanding and appropriate response to varying conditions that affect vehicle operation.

 

Ø      Demonstrate an appropriate attitude and respect to other roadway users and demonstrate safe vehicle driving and passenger procedures.

 

The classroom portion of the course involves 10 days of instruction. Students must complete coursework with a score of 80% or better in order to pass. Students will be engaged in a variety of activities including textbook and Kansas driving handbook lessons, videos, and guest speakers.

 

The behind-the-wheel portion of the class will include basic driving procedures, parking, highway and special driving conditions.  Students must consistently and successfully complete each of the driving competencies without instructor prompt in order to pass.
