On our Way Up

by Jeremy Hazen

November 02, 2007

Another season has come and gone. The 2007 Indian football season improved immensely from the 2006 season. This year we ended with a record of four wins and five losses, which is an improvement from the 2006 season of 1-8.

Here is a recap of our season: We started with a home game against Leoti which was our first loss coming up yard shy of putting the game into overtime. The next week we traveled to Cimarron where we got the first victory of the season. We returned home the next week to beat Syracuse in a close game. The next two weeks would be the beef of our schedule falling to Meade and Holcomb. After losing two tough weeks in a row we still had our heads up and ready to take on Kinsley for our Homecoming game in which we won in overtime. After Kinsley we began district play starting with Stanton County. We ended up falling short to them putting us 3-4 season and 0-1 in district. Knowing we still had a chance to play on, we needed to take care of business the next two weeks starting with Elkhart. The boys came out and played really well winning by the biggest margin of the past two years 46-8. Setting 1-1 in district we had to beat Sublette by 13 points to have any chance to go on. Unfortunately the Indians came up short and finished the season against Sublette.

We are loosing five seniors and we will miss them next year. We wish them the best of luck for the rest of the school year and whichever road they take after graduation. Seniors included Daniel H. aka Hill Billy, he will be missed next year with his speed and ability to make plays. Zack H. aka The Truck Man, we will miss him next season when the trucks going by during stretches. We will be lost without is knowledge of what kind of power the truck has under the hood. Eddy H. aka Pedro. Eddy came to us late in the season and ready to play some football. Eddy was able to make it into a couple JV games where he recorded a couple tackles from the safety spot. Next Codylee C. aka dirty dawg, we were impressed with the work Cody helped us out on with the offensive and defensive line. He will be missed with his unusual comments and smell. And last but not least Michael E aka The Crazy Man. Michael will be missed for his leadership ability and motivational yelling. Whenever it was quiet Michael would seem to throw in a yell and get the guys going.

As for next year, we are looking for another improving season. The boys know what has to be done in the off season to get bigger, faster and stronger in order to make up for lack of size and speed. I am already excited for August to come around again and anxious to start a new fresh season of football.
