Grade School: 5th - 6th Grades

State Assessment Prep

by Debbie Weeks

March 07, 2008

It’s hard to believe, but we are now in the fourth and final nine weeks of this school year.  Another thing that’s hard to believe is that Daylight Saving Time began on March 9th.  Many children and adults view this as a good thing because there is more time to do what you want to do after school and work.  But, the students and teachers are in the middle of state assessments right now and that presents a problem.  If there’s more daylight, then there’s more time to play and less time to sleep.  This leads to the possibility of students being tired at school the next day when they need to be very focused and productive.  The state assessments are not only important to your child, but they’re also important to each grade level, each school, and the entire school district.  Children may need extra guidance at this point in the year to ensure that they go to bed on time and get the rest they need.  Come to think of it, that might be good advice for adults, too.
