High School
Success Happens
By Ron Levan

This has been a very busy year for the jr./sr. high school. As
of today, March7, our students in grades 7-12 have participated in;
1 school play, 2 junior high science fairs, 2 music performances, 6
forensic competitions, 12 FFA competitions, 21 football and
volleyball competitions, 22 scholars bowl competitions, 78 boys and
girls basketball competitions, as well as several business and
academic contests. Our school has hosted both a high school and
junior high school scholars bowl meet, the KSHSAA Regional Scholars
bowl meet and the finals of the HPEA basketball tournament. And
yet, as busy as they are, our students continue to achieve a high
level of success in the classroom.
You may be wondering why I am mentioning all of this. It’s because
none of this would be possible without a cooperative effort between
the staff, the students, the parents, and the community. When you
stop to think about just how busy students are in today’s society,
you can see how easy it would be for them to get overwhelmed and
shut down on some level, but our students continue to thrive.
Success happens when we have parents who support their students and
the school by volunteering to help with homework assignments and at
ball games and activities. Success happens when we have teachers
who are willing to work with students before and after school to
get caught up after missing a class, teachers who are willing to
tutor students after school, teachers who also volunteer their time
to help with ball games, hospitality rooms, and act as judges and
moderators for scholars bowl or forensics. Success happens when we
have students who are driven to succeed, students who spend the
extra hours on assignments after being absent due to illness or
activities, students who come to school with a positive attitude
toward learning. Success happens when we live in a community where
people, both those with and without students in school, support our
school by attending games, plays, and concerts, and by volunteering
to help with the forensics, the scholars bowl, the athletic events,
and anything else when a volunteer is needed.
The bottom line is success happens because of everyone! I want to
thank the teachers, the students, the parents and the community for
helping to make our school on of the top schools in the state.
