Pickleball in P.E.

by Mike Heater

March 13, 2008

Recently Satanta physical education students have been playing pickleball. I’m sure most of you are wondering what in the world pickleball is...let me explain. Pickleball is played on a badminton sized court with a three foot net. It can be played one on one or two on two. The goal is is to get the pickleball (similar to a wiffle ball) across the net, with a wooden paddle, until there is a fault in the rally. Faults include hitting the ball into the net, out of bounds, or not returning the ball at all. Pickleball was invented in the 60’s as a family game played in the driveway. Pickleball got its name from Pickles, one of the inventors’ dog, who would steal the pickleball and hide it in the bushes. The week before spring break, students participated in pickleball tournaments. The fitness classes had a singles tournament, and the freshmen class had a doubles tournament. After many exciting matches, Mr.Hazen has risen to the top of the pickleball mountain, defeating all challengers.
