Welcome to the world of ART!
If you walked into the art room during most high school classes, you would find students currently finishing our clay creations. Students were given the opportunity to construct ball pots, slab containers, coiled vessels, and sculpt food from two different types of clay bodies. My beginning art classes start out the year with ink drawings and painted self portraits. The advanced students started off the year with a still life drawing, then printmaking (for the first time ever), and an abstract acrylic painting. Graphic Design just completed their biggest project of the year; they were required to design a restaurant logo, menu, stationary set, and business card. Junior High Artist are currently finishing up clay projects and beginning another 2D project using colored pencil and one using paint.
Coming back from Christmas, fourteen art pieces were entered into the Western Kansas Scholastics Show, seven receiving honorable mention and one receiving a silver key. After collecting the pieces from Scholastics they went to the Baker Art Center in Liberal for its annual student show which runs until the end of this week. Keeping the pieces moving, eight of my advanced students will attend and take pieces to the High Plains League Art Competition, in Syracuse, Wednesday April 2. Two weeks after this we attend the Fort Hays State Art Exhibition, which has proven to be an eye opening day for students who get to see art produced by high school student all over the state. And our final art show, during awards night on May 15, displays student work from all classes. I hope you are all available to slip in and see the work which will be displayed from 4pm - 8pm.
