Satanta FFA wins the triple crown

By Melvin Heddlesten

April 10, 2008

2008 is the first time in over 35 years that a single FFA chapter has held the first place trophy in the three most difficult events to win in the S.W. Kansas FFA career development events, the triple crown.

Yesterday Kyla, Kendal and Kurtis Clawson won the third leg of the triple crown for the Satanta FFA chapter by winning the livestock judging contest hosted by Seward County Community College. The freshman FFA class started the journey in the fall when they won the Sr. horse judging at Dodge City Community College, the meats team completed the middle leg last week by winning the meats contest hosted by Garden City Community College.

To truly understand how difficult the triple crown is to win, one must look at how often it has been done. The effort and determination of the Satanta FFA members, the support of their parents and the school administration are what made this historic achievement possible.
