TREK TO STATE!!!

If you haven’t heard, the Satanta High School Saxophone Ensemble earned a “I” rating at the state solo and ensemble competition this past Saturday, April 26. Our journey was definitely interesting!! I knew the sax section in our band had potential, so I prodded them into doing an ensemble at the regional competition at Garden City Community College. They reluctantly accepted the challenge and we went through the challenge of selecting music to play. We went through a few and finally decided on a GREAT little piece by Frank Erickson called “Rondino”. They worked the piece up in TWO DAYS and received a “I” rating at the regional solo and ensemble competition. Pretty impressive! We then had a couple of weeks after that to perfect the piece, which we did, and took it to state in Concordia and they knocked it out of the park! A truly great performance that earned an enthusiastic “I” rating from the judge at state. He made a point to come up to us after the performance and tell us what a nice job we did. That was a wonderful compliment all on its own. All in all, a great experience and an even better reflection on Satanta High School! Great job, guys!! ---Mr. Baldwin
