Kindergarten student M. Lee was honored Wednesday by Leona Breeden, a representative of Smoky Hills Public Television, for the story she wrote and illustrated. The Baddest Day Ever tells the story of Clayton and the terrible experiences he encounters one day. Some of his troubles include waking up late, stepping in gum and getting toothpaste in his hair.
Lee’s submission, one of 60 kindergarten entries, was judged on originality, creative expression, storytelling and integration of copy and illustrations. Breeden presented Lee with a certificate along with a trophy, book and backpack. Lee donated the book S if for Sunflower: A Kansas Alphabet to the grade school library. She also had the honor of presenting her teacher Ginger Sprinkle with a certificate from Smoky Hills Public Television. Each kindergarten student received a Curious George or Clifford pencil courtesy of Smoky Hills.
Lee read The Baddest Day Ever to her class and special guests including her parents Matt and Rachel Lee and grandparents Rick and Nancy Lambert. The celebration ended with cake and punch being served to all in attendance.
