Jr. High Cheerleaders
By Stephanie Woolfolk
This past school year, I have had the privilege to sponsor the Jr. High Cheerleaders. This has not only been a learning experience, for all of us, but it has also been a blast! It was so amazing to watch the girls transform into a very talented squad. The 2008-2009 squad members included: Megan Long, Bailey Walters, and Kristi Blair, Emma Stalker, Kate Barajas, and Callie Graybill. The girls had the opportunity to attend cheer camp at Bethany University in Lindsborg, KS. There they began on the basics of stunting, which became a HUGE part of the squad over time. As a junior high squad, they were carrying out many challenging stunts; hopefully you had an opportunity to witness these at their many games and/or performances. The cheerleading season is very long and requires a lot of time and dedication; these girls had the work ethic to put in the hours needed to have such a successful season. Not only did the girls work hard, but we had our fun too! To celebrate our seasons (football and basketball), we had sleepovers and even went roller skating! So all of their hard work paid off!
On April 22nd, we held our tryouts for the 2009-2010 cheerleading squad. You will be seeing some new faces on the team as we promoted three girls to high school (they will be missed), but gained three new very talented girls that will be great assets to our squad. The new members (in addition to Callie, Emma, and Kate) include: Rachel Barajas, Jennifer Rehmke, and Bianca Bencomo. This year, the junior high and high school squads will be attending camp together June 15-18th at McPherson, KS. Please be on the look for upcoming fundraisers to help us get the new teams started! Thank you for all of your support both in and out of the stands, we truly appreciate it!
