Homecoming 2010

By Jessica Knudsen

February 23, 2010

Homecoming is a century-old tradition. High schools and colleges participate in this tradition throughout the nation. The Satanta High School Cheerleaders designed and prepared the various week long activities that lead up to the crowning of the 2010 Winter Homecoming King and Queen.
This year the cheerleaders chose the theme “N.E.O.N. Love” (Never Ending One New Love). They decorated everything from mums, to posters, and the stage in neon colors. Their theme song was “Vanilla Twilight” by Owl City.
The Homecoming week began with Spirit week. Monday began with everyone dressing up in their pajamas. Tuesday was Nerd Day, Wednesday was Neon Day, Thursday was Opposite Sex, and Friday ended with Green & Gold Day. Each day a winner was chosen for the best dressed.
Originally, the Homecoming Week would have ended with a pep rally, but unfortunately a snow day caused school to be cancelled. So, with the rescheduling of Homecoming on Tuesday February 16th, there was no pep rally.
The Homecoming court consisted of the following students: Freshman A. Miramontes and B. Walters, Sophomores C. Henderson and A. Young, Juniors T. Dillon and L. Long. The Senior Homecoming candidates were the following: D. Freeman and L. McDonald, E. Essix and S. Connor, and M. Young and J. Apsley. The Crown bearer was A. Moreno and the flower girl was A. Najera.
The Homecoming festivities finally came to an end at the half time of the boy’s basketball game against Wichita County. The 2010 Winter Homecoming King is D. Freeman, the Queen L. McDonald. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated in the events and helped us in every way.
