Math News

As we start a new school year, I would
like to remind parents/guardians that I am available before school
and after school to help if their child is having problems in my
class.
The Algebra 3 classes are learning to use a
graphing calculator in class to work problems. Some of the problems
require them to graph the equation and then interpret the graph
correctly to answer the question. They are getting more comfortable
with using the calculator. They will be taking a test on the first
chapter which is titled “Prerequisites”. This chapter contained
problems dealing with linear equations and inequalities solved both
algebraically and graphically, complex numbers, and other
information that they will need to build on the rest of the year.
Then we start a unit on functions. First, they learn about
functions and graphs and their properties. Next, they will study
polynomial, power, and rational functions. Then, they will study
exponential and logarithmic functions. The next unit they will
study systems of equations and different methods to solve them.
Finally, before the end of semester, they will study a unit on
discrete mathematics (basic statistics).
College Algebra starts out on a study of
basic concepts of Algebra. Then, they will study a unit on graphs,
functions, and models including quadratic functions and equations
and inequalities; polynomial and rational functions; exponential
and logarithmic functions. They will finish with a unit on systems
of equations and different methods to solve them. Then they will
take a comprehensive final created by SCCC math instructors.
Please remind your child that if they are
having trouble in my classes that I am available before and after
school!
