Welcome Back!

Greetings! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. The summer has brought some changes to the appearance inside the jr-sr high building. The first thing you will notice is the new tile in the commons area, concession area and the jr. high hallway. Flat screen televisions have also been installed in the cafeteria. These will be on during the lunch period for both jr and sr high classes.
There are three major changes this year at the jr.-sr high school. First is the closing of lunch for high school students. The state lunch auditors have been pushing for this for the last several years and with the expansion of the cafeteria, we now have room to accommodate everyone. There is a sheet with frequently asked questions (FAQ) in everyone’s enrollment packet. This should address most parental questions about the closing of high school lunch.
Second is a change in the eligibility restrictions. If a student is ineligible to participate in sports due to poor grades, not only will they not be allowed to participate in sports until their grade comes up to passing, but the student will also not be allowed to attend any other activities such as ball games, concerts, or dances. Prom is also included, so that means that only students who are eligible will be able to attend prom.
Finally, we are implementing a PIN system for student absences. Each parent will be given a PIN number that will be required to be given to Mrs. Kuehler or Mr. Levan for the student to leave school during the day or be excused for the entire day. Information about this new system is in your enrollment packets.
We have added one new staff member this year. Dirk Canon will take over the high school social studies classes as well as the head coaching positions for football and baseball. Mr. Canon is a 2004 graduate of Pittsburg State University. Mr. Canon is very enthusiastic and excited to be part of our faculty and we are happy to have him as a member of our staff.
Along with the first days of school is the beginning of fall sports. We start of by hosting our annual volleyball invitational on August 28 beginning at 9:00 a.m. The first home high school football game will be played on September 10 against Cimarron. The Senior Parents After Prom committee will be serving a meal that night to raise money for After Prom. The first home jr. high volleyball and football games will be played on September 2 against Meade.
I am looking forward to a great year. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 649-2611.
