Car Seat Safety

By Cloud, Marceil

December 01, 2011

Car Seat Safety Day was November 14th. Starting at the Pleasant Prairie Church at 7:00 a.m., on to the Satanta Grade school and finishing up at the Sublette Bus Barn at 6:00 p.m. We had a wonderful response of 25 families and over 40 children serviced.

A big thank you to Anita Aragon from the Haskell County Health Department, two Garden City officers as well as the two school resource officers helped with the implementation of the car-seat check ups. Each family was given an education on how to best use the car seats that they have to keep their children safe.

If you were unable to attend that day but are concerned about the safety of your children’s car seats, you can get them checked at the health department in Sublette.

A few safety tips to remember:
• Keep your child rear-facing as long as possible up to 3 years old.
• All children 4-7 are required to ride in car seat or booster.
• Ages 8-13 should be in back seat at all times.

Children imitate adults. Buckle yourself. Buckle your child.
• Follow instructions provided with your car seat.
• Only use seat belts when your child is big enough.
• Car seats should follow your child.

Booster seats reduce the risk of injury by 59% as compared to using only seat belts.
