Haskell County Softball Finds Success at Home
By Noah Young
On Monday April 24, the Haskell County softball team scored a pair wins over the Stanton County Trojans improving their overall record to 5 wins and 3 losses. In the first game, Lizete Olivas was the winning pitcher, pitching a complete game of seven innings, ending the first game with 3-2 victory. With Olivas pitching the entirety of the second game, Haskell County ended the game earlier than expected, with the run rule after the 5th inning, winning 13-1. Talking with one of the three coaches, Coach Joyce Apsley said, “Taylor Anderson had an excellent night defensively at second base, due to many of her double plays that night. Our defense was good all around.” Other highlights included triples from Cedies Vogts and Lizete Olivas, and Vogts' excellent catching both games. Vogts was described as a “wall” behind the plate. The team’s coaches also include Jessica Ball and Brittany Fox.
