Senior Spotlights

Satanta Senior Spotlights is dedicated to recognizing graduating seniors who are attending Satanta High School. This edition of Satanta Senior Spotlights features three members of the SHS Class of 2019: Brian Duran, Lizete Olivas, and Claudia Jones. Look for more Satanta Senior Spotlights in coming weeks.


Brian Duran is a 17-year-old member of the Class of 2019. His parents are Juan and Monica Salamanca. He started school in Satanta in first grade. He played football in his early years of high school and middle school. Duran is a member of Kays and scholars’ bowl this year and is finishing his third year in FFA. His favorite memory in Satanta is cruising with his cousin, Brandon Salas who has become his inspiration. He is interested in earning an associate’s degree from Seward County Community College or Garden City Community College.
His advice for future graduates is, “Focus, it matters.”
 

 

Lizete Olivas is a senior with an eye on graduation. Her parents are Jose and Erica Olivas. She started school in Satanta in preschool. Olivas is involved in basketball, volleyball, and softball. She is also involved in clubs like S-Club and Kays. Her favorite memory is when she would nap in Kindergarten. Her inspiration to graduate comes from her mom, Erica Olivas. When she graduates, she would like to go to Seward County Community College and and start working on her nursing degree. Her advice for future graduates is, “Listen, and do your work. What they teach you actually matters.”


Claudia Jones is another senior who is looking forward to May. She is the daughter of Jason and Stacy Baldwin. She started school in Satanta her freshman year. Her favorite memory is when her friend, Leslie Cabrera jumped over a bench and tripped. She is working for the Monitor-Chief and doing work study at the Dudley Township Library. Her inspiration is her mom, Stacy Baldwin. Jones is going to Garden City Community College and plans to study media. She is interested in transferring to Wichita State University to study photography. Her advice for for other students is, “Stick with good influences, not the people who bring you down.”
