Heather Stegman has joined the USD 507, Satanta, staff as principal of Satanta Jr.-Sr. High School. Before assuming the position of principal, Stegman was a special education teacher in Holcomb for 22 years. She graduated from Satanta in 1991 and earned bachelors and masters degrees from Fort Hays State University, where her daughter currently attends school.
When asked about why she took this new position, she replied that she “loved growing up in Satanta. The community of Satanta has supported and helped make me who I am. I am excited to be back and hope to have a positive impact on the students here ” She took the job because she had had her masters degree in school leadership for 10 years, and when the job opened the timing was right, so she decided to apply.
Stegman said that she has a solid faculty and staff who strive to help students succeed. Stegman said, “We have a great staff that work hard to help all our students. Each of our teachers fills a role to make sure all of our students learn and are taken care of. Our teachers have a variety of strengths that make our building a great place to be.” Stegman has also received kudos from her staff. Karen Burrows, junior high English language arts instructor, said, "I've been particularly impressed by Mrs. Stegman's willingness to work with struggling students after school."
