By Lizahi Quinonez-Salas

The Satanta High School Scholars’ Bowl team began its season with a first-place finish at Meade on October 15 where they finished with a record of 9-0. The team went to Ashland on October 22 where it earned a second-place finish with a record of 9-1.  The Indians next traveled to Lakin where it captured second place with a record of 10-2. The team held a combined record of 28-3 following these three meets.

Team members for Meade and Ashland included the following:  Ella Burrows, Jaylon Essix, Adan Gutierrez, Andrew Heimerich, Sami Small, and Jody Zimmerman. The team make-up for Lakin was slightly different due to a band concert conflict. That team was comprised of the following students: Ella Burrows, Jaylon Essix, Adan Gutierrez, Andrew Heimerich, Sami Small, Jody Zimmerman, and Heidi Neef.

The team has two main goals this year: “First, to place among the top three teams at every invitational meet this year; second, to qualify for competition at state. We'd love to add a fifth state banner to our gym this year, but qualifying for state is an honor that we're working toward right now,” said Ryan Burrows, Satanta’s coach.
