Top Feather Winners Announced at Satanta Grade School

By Lizete Olivas

Satanta Grade School’s Positive Behavior Incentive System (PBIS) encourages positive student behavior. Students in grades PK-5 who exhibit good behavior are rewarded with Tribe Feathers. These feathers are symbols of a job well done. With the feathers that they earn, students can make purchases at a newly-established Tribe Feather store at the grade school. They can also save their feathers for later purchases.

The items that they can purchase at the Tribe Feather Store include the following reward:

  • 1 feather = a treasure box pick
  • 5 feathers = a bottle of pop, a free popcorn at a concession stand, no homework pass
  • 10 feathers = two Corner Bucks or two concession stand bucks, free game admission, or the opportunity to help on lunch duty
  • 15 feathers = free nachos and pop at a concessions stand, a chance to go get the mail with Ms. Medrano for a week, the opportunity to eat lunch with any friend in school, or to earn a class party or an extra recess
  • 20 feathers = a Triple J’s gift certificate, a McDonald’s gift certificate, a Sonic gift card worth $5
  • 25 feathers = a chance to be principal for the day

These feathers are given every Friday as rewards for good behavior such as being responsible, working as a team, and exhibiting other positive qualities. Student athletic teams, clubs, and organizations from the high school present these feathers on a weekly basis.

At the end of each 9 weeks, students are selected as the top feather earners in each class. For the first 9-weeks, the winners of the Top Feather were as follows:

PK - Mingo Aranda

Kinder - Avery Dunn

1st - Aiden McDonald

2nd - Kendra Varela

3rd - Marshall Alexander

4th - Brianna SanJuan
