On the heels of the success of last year’s concert featuring the band Christian Soldiers, Satanta School Resource Officer Tiffany Gasseling and Detective Aaron Koehn were asked by the ministerial alliance to arrange for the performance of another band in Satanta for 2019.
Asked and delivered. This year’s concert, which was held on February 25, featured Attaboy, “a group that formed from a house band for a youth conference in late 2004 [and focuses on] enlisting their talents to encourage hearts, create lasting memories, inspire hope, and communicate the love of Christ.” The band has performed all over the country and even opened a concert for Christian rap artist NF.
Attaboy played at Satanta High School, first in the afternoon for a performance of secular music, and later in the evening for a performance of their spiritual music. An especially fun moment during the school-day concert came when teachers and students were invited to participate in a dance competition. Participants included Mrs. Crystal Naylor, Mr. Tim Dusin, Lake Sunderland, and Isaiah Garcia. Attaboy members also shared personal stories of hope with the audience of 6th through 12th grade students before inviting them back to the evening concert.
Following the evening concert, students were allowed to meet the band and share their personal stories with them. Many also took pictures with the band and bought merchandise from them. Students from Satanta helped set up and tear down equipment, which provided an experience of life on tour. Reviews of the performance were strong, and the students in attendance indicated that they would like to see another band next school year.
