Satanta Family and Consumer Science Classroom Undergoes Major Remodel

By Leslie Cabrera

Mrs. Judy Stuckey, Satanta Family and Consumer Science (FACS) teacher and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) sponsor, began teaching in Satanta seven years ago, using a kitchen that dates back to the 1970s. That began to change this semester when the current kitchen was stripped from floor to ceiling as USD 507 initiated a complete remodel of the classroom space.

The remodel will include installing new flooring, lighting, cabinets, and counter tops, built-in dishwashers, four new ranges, two new refrigerators, two new freezers, four new microwaves, and a new washer-dryer set. The project also includes upgrades to the facility’s electrical system and plumbing as well the installation of new HVAC unit.

The current time frame for the his project includes an August 2019 completion date. Stuckey says, “The new FACS room will help improve student outcomes with better equipment in each individual kitchen. Students will be proud of their work and their facilities.” The new kitchen is set to play a role in the district’s expanding vocational programs and pathways.
