Forecast for Fun at Satanta Day 2019

On May 11, 2019, the community of Satanta will host its annual Satanta Day celebration. The fun actually begins with the arrival of the carnival on Friday, May 10. The carnival runs 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Friday with bracelets for unlimited rides costing $25 each. The carnival will also be open on Saturday offering a similar deal.


Saturday morning starts with the Satanta Day Breakfast, which is held at the Satanta United Methodist Church. The church will also be the starting point of the annual 2 & 5 Mile Fun Runs. Registration opens at 6:45 a.m for both races. Children races will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will be held on Main Street. There is no fee for entering any of these races.


The craft fair at the Satanta Community Building will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run till 3:00 p.m. At 10:00 a.m., there will be pre-parade entertainment on Main Street prior to the crowning of the new Chief and Princess Satanta. The big Satanta Day Parade will follow at 10:30 a.m. The parade will conclude with the traditional turtle race sponsored by the Satanta Lions Club.


After the parade, parade watchers are invited to Apache Park (known locally as “Methodist Park”) for a barbecue, featuring hamburgers grilled by the Knights of Columbus and served by Satanta FCCLA. Tickets for the meal will be sold throughout the day and be purchased from any Satanta Chamber of Commerce member. Following the meal in the park, a friendship dance led by Native American dancer Dennis Rogers will take place. The dance will be followed by children’s games in the park, which are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.


An open house will be held at Legacy Suites from 1:30 p.m to 3:30 p.m, and a Color Run will begin at 1:30 p.m. From 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Satanta alumni are invited to a reception at Satanta High School in the cafeteria, which will also be site of the Alumni Dinner and Meeting at 6:00 p.m.


Fran’s lounge will be offering live entertainment on both Friday and Saturday from 8:00 p.m. to midnight. Be sure to drop into local businesses to purchase your Satanta Day 2019 t-shirts bearing this year’s theme: “Hands and Hearts: Satanta Proud.”
