Satanta Seniors’ Work Published in SCCC Telolith
Two Satanta seniors, Brittani Lauppe and Adan Gutierrez, were recently announced as among the Seward County Community College (SCCC) students whose works were selected for publication in the Telolith, a journal of literature and art that is a collaborative project of the SCCC English Department and the SCCC Art Department.
Both Lauppe and Gutierrez were enrolled at SCCC via concurrent classes taught by Ryan Burrows at Satanta High School. For the past 20 years, these courses have given Satanta students dual-credit access to courses in Composition 101 and 102.
Lauppe’s piece is a nonfiction essay that, according to Burrows, “chronicles her emergence from an abusive relationship that nearly swallowed her identity.” Gutierrez’s work, a short story, is described by Burrows as a “modern parable intended for a young adult audience.” Copies of the publication can be found at the Dudley Township Library in Satanta.
