Satanta Students Participate in Softball Showcase

by Abbi Boese

Two Satanta High School students, Abbi Boese and Abby Zabel, traveled to Inman, KS, for a Softball Showcase on Oct. 17. The showcase had six college coaches that were there: Hesston College, Sterling College, Friends University, Hutchinson Community College, Cloud County Community College and Barton County Community College.

Athletes participating in the showcase played a scrimmage where two teams were created. Each team had several pitchers and catchers while the rest of the team members were selected randomly.

During the scrimmage, each of the pitchers pitched two innings while the same catcher caught for them. Everyone else on the field had to change position or sit and cheer. This pattern continued for 8 or so innings, and as it was going on, the college coaches sat behind home plate and watched.

Following the scrimmage, players had an opportunity to visit with the coaches about what college life looks like for a softball player and what coaches were looking for in their recruits.
