KAY Members Learn the Power of One

by Alba Najera

The Kansas Association of Youth (KAY) is returning to normal following COVID, and it couldn’t be at a more perfect time as the organization is celebrating its 75th year. KAY is a character-building, leadership training program directed by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. The organization emphasizes four areas of service: school, community, nation and the world.

This year’s KAY Area 5 regional conference was hosted by Sublette High School on November 4. The conference provided student leaders and sponsors in the area to share successes and challenges, as well as exchange ideas. The theme was “The Power of One,” and the focus was how one idea from one person can lead to change.

Seniors Janet Basilio, Esperanza Hernandez, Alba Najera and Gysel Najera and junior Kara Kunselman, who is the chapter president, attended, along with KAY sponsor Janis Grover. The group left the conference with lots of enthusiasm and service ideas for the Satanta KAY organization to undertake.
