Covid Policy Update 12-3-21

As we enter into winter and indoor activities, USD 507 would like to remind families of the Covid guidelines we follow under the direction of the Haskell County Health Department, KDHE, and CDC. In short, individuals who are a Covid positive should not attend school or school events. Individuals under quarantine may attend school and school events with a daily negative Covid test administered at the school. When teams travel for activities at other schools, students and spectators are expected to comply with both USD 507 and visiting school guidelines.

Individuals who test positive for Covid-19 should isolate at home for a minimum of 10 days, following guidance from County Health or KDHE. Those who are Covid positive must be fever free and symptom free for at least 72 hours and have a written release from County Health or KDHE before returning to school. If individuals who have had Covid show symptoms (fever, wet cough, runny nose, or sneezing) upon return to school, they will be sent home.

Those who have been exposed to Covid-19 may either quarantine at home or participate in Test to Stay and Learn and Test to Play and Participate. They must be tested daily at the school during the duration of their quarantine period until released by County Health or KDHE.

For exposures that occur at school, the school will follow state guidelines. Currently, this calls for a 7-day testing period. If the 7-day period ends on a weekend, individuals must test on Monday when they return to school. Those who participate in activities over the weekend must also test before participating.

Individuals who are testing following an exposure must follow these guidelines:

  • Test to stay only applies to individuals who are symptom free. Anyone who has been exposed to Covid and then experiences symptoms should stay home from school.

  • Individuals who are testing must wear a mask during their testing period. Masks are recommended for at least 14 days after exposure.

  • Individuals who test positive will be sent home and required to isolate for at least 10 days.

Individuals who choose to quarantine at home are not allowed to attend any school activities until released from quarantine. Those who choose to quarantine will need to complete their quarantine before returning to school or any activities. Testing to participate in certain activities or individual school days while in quarantine is not an option at this time. Students who choose to quarantine at home are expected to complete all assigned work while at home for a minimum of 10 days.

For exposures that occur outside of school, individuals will be released from quarantine by County Health or KDHE, generally 10 days after the last day of contact with the positive case. The school does not release individuals from quarantine. County Health and KDHE determine when individuals are released from quarantine.

Fully vaccinated individuals are not required to test after an exposure to Covid. However, they are required to wear a mask, and testing is recommended 3 to 5 days after exposure. Individuals who have a confirmed positive Covid test within the past 6 months are also exempted from daily testing but are required to mask after an exposure.

USD 507 can test for Covid-19, influenza, and strep upon parental request. We do not test without parental consent.
