Satanta Elementary Celebrates Muffins with Mom
By Natalia Gonzalez
On February 14, Satanta Elementary School celebrated Muffins with Mom. The event brought moms, their children, and muffins together for breakfast in the cafeteria where members of the grade school faculty and staff served banana muffins, fruit, applesauce, yogurt, and, of course, coffee to the moms in attendance. Students were also encouraged to make use of a Valentine’s Day-themed photo booth to capture a special moment with their mothers. Digital copies of these photos were then emailed to those in the pictures. Pictured here is Satanta teacher Karen Burrows and her second-grade daughter Mia. The Satanta Elementary Positive Behavior Incentive System (PBIS) committee worked with the USD 507 kitchen staff to plan and organize the event, which was attended by over 55 mothers. The purpose of the event was to strengthen the ties between home and school. PBIS committee member Ashton Wenta said, “It was a great to do something special for moms and kids, and we are in the planning something for dads as well, possibly this spring.” Several fathers have already begun to lobby for Pancakes with Papa.
