PTO will be starting up soon--watch for details about our first meeting. If you'd like to be added to the PTO message group, please email or talk to Penny Unruh (punruh@usd507.org). PTO is for all adults involved in our students' lives--parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, family friends. PTO provides school supplies and T-shirts for our students, snacks for field trips and state assessments, and more! We'd love to have as many people involved as possible!

SGS is launching new leadership opportunities for our students, including student jobs. Students applied for a variety of jobs helping out in the building. Our first group of helpers helped take the trash out this afternoon. Great job, TRIBE members!

If you walk dogs around our school buildings, thank you for cleaning up after them. Recently we have had some dog messes left on the football field and playground. We want to keep our facilities safe and clean for students and community members to use. Thank you for helping us keep our grounds clean.

This afternoon at 3:17, the 3rd grade class returned from recess to a smoky classroom. Within two minutes of the fire alarm going off, the entire building was evacuated–pretty amazing for the first full day of school! The smoke was caused by a problem with the HVAC unit. Our maintenance crew, the Haskell County Fire Department, and H & I Home Comfort have all inspected the unit and believe students are safe to return to the building tomorrow. Thank you to Officer Tiffany, Clay and Ed, the sheriff’s department, the fire department, and EMS for their quick response. Thank you to parents for helping us get kids where they belonged calmly and efficiently. Our teachers and staff did a great job keeping kids calm and safe, and our kids were rock stars. I’m just so impressed with the way everyone responded when we haven’t even had a fire drill yet this year. We will be back in school on Friday. If your kiddos are anxious about returning to school, please give teachers a heads up so we can give them a little more care tomorrow. We never want to have an emergency situation at school, but it's reassuring to know that our students, teachers, staff, parents, and emergency responders all know what to do.
