Class of 2025
Satanta High School is proud to name Yahaira Puerto as the Class of 2025 Salutatorian. With a 3.9643 GPA, a deep commitment to community service, and a passion for health care, Yahaira has made a lasting mark on her school and community. Throughout high school, Yahaira pursued academic rigor through both her regular coursework and concurrent college classes at Seward County Community College. She completed Medical Terminology, Public Speaking, College Algebra, Statistics, and both Composition I and II. In addition, she earned her Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification and is CPR-certified through the American Heart Association, reflecting her early and focused entry into the medical field. Yahaira’s academic achievements are matched by her wide-ranging leadership and extracurricular involvement. A five-sport athlete, she has competed in basketball, volleyball, softball, track, and cheerleading, earning numerous honors including SPIAA and HPL All-League selections, Ingalls Invitational All-Academic Team awards, and the title of All-American Cheerleader. She served as a Cheer Captain. Beyond athletics, Yahaira has served in key leadership roles in multiple student organizations. She is President of the National Honor Society, Vice-President of KAY Club, and has held offices in Student Council, FBLA, DECA, and S-Club. As a class representative since her freshman year, she attended leadership conferences and contributed to the school's mentorship program and yearbook staff. Her service extends into the community as well. Yahaira has volunteered with the Satanta Recreation Commission, helped with homecoming and school cleanup efforts, painted fire drill numbers, and regularly provides custodial service at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. These contributions reflect her strong work ethic and her desire to give back to the people and places that have shaped her. Yahaira’s commitment to nursing grew out of a life-changing personal experience. In a scholarship essay, she recalled the moment in October 2023 when her mother became critically ill. After days of misdiagnosed pain, her mother was found to have a life-threatening brain aneurysm. She was quickly airlifted to another hospital, where a team of nurses provided expert care. "I observed their every action and was deeply impressed by their compassion and competence," Yahaira wrote. "One nurse in particular worked tirelessly to manage my mother’s discomfort. Her dedication and exceptional care left a lasting impression on me." From that moment forward, Yahaira knew she wanted to become a nurse and plans to attend Garden City Community College before transferring to Kansas State University. She now plans to pursue a degree in nursing with the goal of working in neonatal intensive care. “My goal is to be a safe space for families and to be able to help people,” she wrote. “With the unwavering support of my parents, I am committed to realizing this dream.” At Satanta High School’s upcoming graduation ceremony, Yahaira will deliver the salutatory address, reflecting on her journey, her goals, and the strength of the Class of 2025. Her story is one of resilience, compassion, and a steadfast desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Congratulations to Yahaira Puerto, Satanta High School Class of 2025 Salutatorian.

Satanta High School is proud to announce Andrea Gutierrez as the Class of 2025 valedictorian. Andrea is a student whose academic excellence, leadership, and community service have distinguished her throughout her high school career. With a 3.9649 GPA and an impressive resume of extracurricular activities, Andrea has demonstrated not only scholastic achievement but a deep commitment to service, leadership, and personal growth. A concurrent enrollment student at Seward County Community College, Andrea has consistently earned recognition on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll and is an active member of the National Honor Society. Andrea has served her class as Vice President during her freshman year and President since sophomore year. She has also held key leadership roles in organizations such as KAY Club (Co-President and Treasurer) and Student Council, while participating in cheerleading—where she was named an All-American and served as a team captain—as well as volleyball and S-Club. Beyond the classroom, Andrea's dedication to her community has been unwavering. She has volunteered for USDA Commodities Distribution, helped organize fundraisers for the Western Kansas Child Advocacy Center, mentored elementary students, and worked as a waitress, childcare provider, and lifeguard. Her involvement with St. Alphonsus Catholic Church Youth Group and various community outreach projects further reflects her values of service and compassion. Andrea’s selection as valedictorian is a testament not only to her academic success but also to her resilience and purpose-driven future. In a recent scholarship essay, she shared how her mother’s journey from her home country to the United States has inspired her own path. Moved by her family's experience navigating pregnancy and healthcare in a new country, Andrea plans to become an Ultrasound Technician. “My goal is to provide care, reassurance, and empowerment to women of all ages and backgrounds during the often uncertain journey of pregnancy,” Andrea wrote in a scholarship essay, noting that “Receiving a scholarship would honor the sacrifices my parents have made and give me the opportunity to pursue a career where I can offer the care and guidance my family once needed.” Andrea plans to attend Garden City Community College before transferring to Fort Hays State University to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Medical Diagnostic Imaging. With a passion for helping others and a fierce dedication to her goals, Andrea Gutierrez is poised to leave a lasting impact both in her community and the healthcare field. The Satanta High School graduation ceremony will take place on May 11, where Andrea will deliver the valedictory address to her classmates, staff, and community members. Her message of hope, perseverance, and gratitude promises to be as inspiring as her high school journey.
