Satanta High School Honors 2025 Scholarship Recipients at Annual Assembly
Satanta, KS – Satanta High School celebrated the accomplishments of its senior class at the annual Scholarship Assembly held on May 7, 2025. During the event, numerous scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors in recognition of their academic achievements, leadership, service, and career ambitions.
Morgan Pendergraft received the $650 Jan McLeland Memorial Scholarship, the $500 Carl Wilson Memorial Scholarship, a $2,000 Sublette United Methodist Men’s Scholarship, a $1,000 Statesman Scholarship, and a $500 Satanta Alumni Scholarship. She also received a $20,000 Friends University Softball Scholarship.
Andrea Gutierrez was awarded the $1,000 Yolande Bestgen Memorial Scholarship, a $2,000 Sublette United Methodist Men’s Scholarship, a $250 American Red Cross Scholarship, the $1,000 Satanta District Hospital Scholarship, and a $500 Satanta Alumni Scholarship. She was also recognized as the outgoing Princess Satanta, receiving an additional $500 award.
Yahaira Puerto received the $500 Henderson Memorial Foundation Scholarship, a $2,000 Sublette United Methodist Men’s Scholarship, a $500 Pioneer Communications Scholarship, the $1,000 Betty and Rolland Werner Scholarship from the Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas, a $250 American Red Cross Scholarship, a renewable basketball scholarship from Seward County Community College, and a $500 Satanta Alumni Scholarship.
Eva Loewen was awarded a $2,000 Sublette United Methodist Men’s Scholarship, a $1,000 Invenergy Scholarship, a $1,500 Finnup Foundation Scholarship, a $1,000 Garden City Community College Endowment Scholarship, a $500 Haskell County Soil Conservation District Scholarship, a $500 KLC Farm Scholarship, an $800 Haskell County Fair Board Scholarship, and a $500 Satanta Alumni Scholarship.
Marlen Perez Munguia received a $2,000 Sublette United Methodist Men’s Scholarship, a $500 Pioneer Communications Scholarship, a $500 Haskell County Rotary Student of the Month Award, a $500 Southwest Kansas Board of Realtors Scholarship, the $400 Brandon Salas Memorial Scholarship, and the Seward County Community College Presidential Scholarship, which covers books and tuition and is renewable. She also earned a $500 Satanta Alumni Scholarship and a $200 SHS Art Club Scholarship.
Kassady Lazar was awarded a $2,000 Sublette United Methodist Men’s Scholarship, a $1,000 Garden City Community College Scholarship, a $500 KLC Farm Scholarship, a $600 Haskell County Fair Board Scholarship, and a $500 Satanta Alumni Scholarship.
Isaiah Manriquez, recognized as the outgoing Chief Satanta, received a $500 award and a $1,500 Southern Pioneer Electric Lineman Scholarship.
Vladimir Alvarado received the $2,000 Tom and Donna Shirley Family Scholarship via the Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas, a $500 Haskell County Soil Conservation District Scholarship, and a $500 Class of ’69 Scholarship.

Satanta High School Celebrates SCCC Graduates, CNA Licenses,
and CTE Pathway Excellence
Satanta, KS – Satanta High School proudly announces the career-ready accomplishments of its students in vocational education, career and technical training, and industry certification programs.
Among the 2025 graduating class, 10 of 19 seniors have earned the distinction of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Pathway Completers, a designation recognized by the Kansas State Department of Education as a benchmark of college and career preparedness. Also noted here are Pathway Concentrators, students who made significant progress toward becoming a Completer.
“These students have taken on real-world challenges and walked away with credentials that prove their readiness,” said Crystal Naylor, Satanta science teacher and CTE educator. “Whether they’re heading into welding, agriculture, healthcare, or business, they are prepared to make an immediate impact.”

Kansas defines CTE Pathway Completion as the successful completion of a sequence of courses within an approved career pathway. Students who earn this designation graduate with both academic and technical skill proficiencies that align with workforce demands.
In addition to these distinctions, a number of Satanta High School Students have earned vocational certifications from Seward County Community College.

The All-School Cookout will be held Thursday, May 8, at Satanta Grade School. Tickets are $6--please either prepurchase tickets or bring exact change or a check as we will not be able to make change in the line. We will begin serving kindergarten at 11. The junior high track team will be bussed over at 11:15. Other junior high and high school studnets will be bussed over at 11:40. Please enter through the SGS front doors.

HUGE shoutout to our golfers today!
The boys battled in the pouring rain today bringing home a 3rd place team finish. We also had 2 individual medalist: Gage Lee placing 9th with a 87 and our very own Eric Moreno placing 11th with a 89! Eric had a rough front 9 but bounced back in a huge way improving his front 9 score by 11 strokes firing a 39 for his back 9! Not only did Eric set a new PR with a 89 but he was one of three golfers to shoot a 39 on either of sides which was the second lowest 9 hole score out of the entire tournament field! It was a long and brutal day out in the rain but our boys showed some grit out on the links and we are so very proud of our boys!!

Due to weather, the Junior High Haskell County Relays scheduled for today (5-6) have been cancelled.
As we wrap up the school year, that means one thing — summer workouts are close to beginning.
Introducing Summer Grind 2025. Starting June 2nd through August 8th, workouts will run Monday through Thursday beginning at 6:00 AM with all high school boys, followed by all high school girls, and ending with junior high students at 8-9 AM all ran by Coach Tegeler. This is open to ALL students entering grades 6-12, whether you're in a sport or not. Then there will be an evening workout time for those that can't make it to the morning sessions that will be ran by Coach Brockett. These workouts will not be divided up like the morning. It is open to ALL 6-12 students who again could not make the morning session. There are two awesome incentives for the students showing up AND working hard. If the student shows up AND work hard for 15 days that student will earn a custom Summer Grind 2025 T-shirt. Then if that student shows up 25 days AND works hard they'll earn a sport on our Bowling Party Trip to Garden City. Let's Show up, get better, and start to build a strong, hardworking, winning culture!
